The formation of our biochemicals (all those enzymes and tissues in our bodies) is directed by the genes. The genes are inherited. So, chemical homology between groups is evidence that those groups are related.
I can’t think of any other reason. That’s enough! Maybe they consider the special case of the inherited chemical…nucleic acids…to be separate and distinct evidence.
