Anyone know a LOT about physical fitness? (balancing lifting and running)?
I’m in damn good shape, but I’m much more of a powerlifter than a runner, and I’d like to find a compromise. My goal for the 2 mile run is about 12 minutes (currently at about 13:30). Do I need to accept a loss in my max lifts, or can I expect to increase my speed while maintaining my strength?
Oh yah, if I run and lift on the same day, which should go first, and can I go immediately back to back, or should I wait between doing the other.
Why not alternate days. No reason why you can’t maintain your strength. If doing both on the same day do the running first – that gets the cardio vascular system working to maximum taking more oxygen to the blood. Your weight lifting is anaerobic so you need all the oxygen you can get.
